The California Commission on the Status of Women 2008 Public Hearings are now complete!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Commission's Public Hearings held in San Francisco, San Diego and Fontana - providing valuable testimony regarding the needs of women and girls around the state. Thank you as well to all to those that provided their testimony in writing.

The information we received will be used to help develop the Commission's Public Policy Agenda for the 2009/2010 Legislative session.

A special thank you to the individuals - many representing agencies and organizations - for their participation in the public hearings

The California Commission on the Status of Women will hold three public hearings throughout California to learn what issues women and girls are facing and what role the state can play in addressing them.

Hearings will be made up ENTIRELY of testimony from individuals and organizations bringing their comments and recommendations to the Commission. Priority to testify will be given to those who submit the sign-up form by the assigned date.

Issues for testimony include, but are not limited to, sexual harassment, reproductive freedom, all forms of equality, child support, childcare, human trafficking, access to health care, child custody, women and corrections, divorce, Title IX, athletic equity, LGBTQ equity, housing, education, pay equity, stalking, sexual assault, employment discrimination, women in politics, teen dating violence, domestic violence, hate crimes, women veterans, issues impacting older women, welfare, financial challenges/education, disability, CalWORKs, CEDAW & teen pregnancy.

In 2006, the Commission held its first round of hearings. The Commission's 2007/08 Public Policy Agenda, based in part on the information received at the hearings, was designed to meet important human needs and to eliminate inequities for women. We welcome you to share your ideas for our upcoming 2009/2010 Policy Agenda.
